What is the American Legion?

The American Legion is a patriotic organization of U.S. Veterans. It was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 with a mission devoted to mutual helpfulness. As the largest veterans' service organization in America, the Legion upholds time-honored values and actively engages in various initiatives:

  • Veterans Advocacy: The American Legion advocates for veterans’ rights, benefits, and well-being. It works tirelessly to ensure that veterans receive the support they deserve.
  • Community Service: Legion members actively participate in community events, support local causes, and contribute to the betterment of their neighborhoods.
  • Youth Programs: The Legion sponsors programs such as Boys State and Girls State, providing young people with leadership training and civic education.
  • Americanism: The Legion promotes patriotism, respect for the flag, and appreciation for American heritage.
